The dining table and chest of drawers are made using Shesham wood, also known as Indian rosewood, wrapped in sheets of a white metal alloy. Each piece is constructed and finished by hand in India by small, skilled carpentry workshops. No two pieces are exactly alike, including the layering and seaming of the metal sheets. Our 30 years experience in selling such unique, hand-made products from India gives us confidence that the Kaveri pieces will perform solidly over time. Ultimately, Kaveri tables and chests will be admired for the uniqueness that come with age and use. We require that customers inspect and approve the condition of the piece before purchasing the table and chest. This will eliminate any surprises at the time of delivery. All sales are considered final and the pieces are sold in “as-is” condition at the time of the transaction. Expansion and contraction of the wood substructure is to be expected and is considered normal due to variations in climate during transit, storage and post-installation. Specifically, customers should expect that the chest’s drawers will become tighter and/or looser seasonally, depending on the climate of its resting place. Bubbling and rippling of the metal veneer will vary in degree and frequency (though it might not occur at all). The dining table might also exhibit similar, or distinct, seasonal changes throughout its lifespan.The metal veneer is unsealed. This means that any substance that touches the metal could potentially leave marks and/or stains. If used regularly, the metal requires only occasional polishing with a metal polish like Brasso. Polishing will remove most all stains and marks though acidic substances will leave permanent discoloration. We strongly recommend day-to-day cleaning with only warm, soapy water and/or dusting with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use stringent cleaning products as they could cause a chemical reaction with the metal resulting in permanent discoloration. Protect the condition and appearance of the varnish finish by using tablecloths, placemats, coasters and trivets.
